Awarded

The lovely Miss B over at Champagne & Macarons passed the Stylish Blogger Award to me with the caveat that I share 7 things about myself.

I attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated with a degree in English and in Journalism with an emphasis on advertising and public relations. I stayed in Madison post-graduation and each winter I wonder why I torture myself with a snow-covered life here. A sunnier location is tempting, but I love Madison summers too much to leave - especially outdoor dinners on State Street (above). The people watching is ideal.

I took belly dancing lessons and plan to enroll in another class. It's an incredible workout that helps tone isolated muscles - during just a six week course, I lost an inch from my waist. And, yes, I can undulate my stomach.

I don't play favorites. I don't have a favorite song. No favorite movie. My preferred color changes daily. And I certainly can't pick a favorite ice cream flavor. Variety is the spice of life, why limit yourself?

My day job has gotten infinitely cooler this year. I work at a local business magazine. I started four years ago doing sales support, right out of college. Since then, I've held a handful of positions with the company, including maintaining our website and managing events (my true love). We've finally hired someone to take over the Web so I can transition to events full time - and I couldn't be more excited, especially since I see event management as my career path. However, I'm pulling for a new title: Event Architect and/or Social Director.

I collect seashells. The collection is separated by location and stored in a variety of clear glass vases and apothecary jars. Each jar is a different beach and a different memory - and it's interesting to see how shells and sand differ throughout the world. I'm quite fond of the shells collected on The Netherlands' North Sea coast. These are kept in a "kleintje" (translation: itty bitty) Heineken glass.

I'm hopeless with directions. Do you remember the days before the GPS? I was the one taping Mapquest directions to my steering wheel to reference during the drive. And don't even talk to me about the days before Mapquest ... I would have never found my way home. Thank goodness for Garmin. (But I can use a compass.)

I briefly mentioned this before, but there's a possibility that I'll visit China this year. At work, we've been working on an Executive Summit to Beijing and Tianjin, China. This is an opportunity for companies to meet Chinese executives, government leaders and embassy officials. As we've quickly learned, doing business in China is all about relationships - and we've been fortunate to make vital inroads. If we can sell 20 tickets at $5,400 (12 days, all inclusive), I get to go along. Perk of being the, ahem, Event Architect. Besides, I feel like the trip is part of my divine plan - when I was a wee one, my great aunt went to China and returned with a pair of embroidered, red silk baby booties for me. It all goes back to fashion, doesn't it?

Blog Award

It was such a sweet surprise to see that Amy of Amy Shops the Web tagged me for the A Blog with Substance award yesterday. I know each of us have made countless friends through our blogs - and Amy is one of the most genuine people I've virtually met! Her blog has become a daily must-read that features the best sartorial finds from across the Web, saving you the time of logging in to those sample sale sites.

Here are the award rules:

1. Thank the person who gave it to me.
Like Amy specified on her blog, this step is definitely not necessary. That said ... thanks, Amy!

2. Sum up my blogging philosophy, motivation, and experience using five words.
Always seeking beautiful sartorial finds!

3. Pass it on to 5 other blogs that I feel have real substance.
Choosing only five blogs is more difficult than I could have possibly imagined (I hate excluding people!), but here are a few that I've recently added to my daily reads:

Save or Splurge?

I don't have to tell you that clogs are making a strong resurgence in the sartorial realm. With wooden platforms, supple leather and nail head details, I can see the appeal. Miu Miu's clog is undeniably luxurious - but has a $495 price tag that not many of us can justify. Luckily, retailers are beginning to release versions inspired by our runway favorites. Steve Madden's pair retains the flavor the luxe version with the curved leather details, but opts for a nude-colored leather that will elongate legs. Will you save or splurge?

I'd also like to take a moment to thank Bren of Chasing Beauty for the Stiletto Award! If you haven't read her blog yet, what are you waiting for? Bren has a knack for singling out amazing beauty products to try.

Tag!

Can the contents of our bags yield insight into our personalities? I'll let you decide as I spill my essentials, thanks to prompting from Tanya over at Moosette.

I'm schlepping:
  1. My new CC Skye "Edie" messenger bag (via Gilt)
  2. Banana Republic silk scarf
  3. Handful of toiletries: Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer in "white citrus", miscellaneous Clinique lip products, Renu eye drops
  4. Motorola Razr phone (Obviously I'm not concerned with being high tech!)
  5. Lauren Merkin business card case in "Eggplant"
  6. Keys to my car, apartment and heart
  7. Pen
  8. Paint samples - I'm searching for the perfect navy blue for the bedroom.
  9. Banana Republic wallet
  10. Coach planner
  11. Camera (not pictured)
I'm a bit of a voyeur and would love to see what everyone else is carrying! I encourage everyone to play, but I'm going to specifically tag: A Wonderfelle World, Suck My Savvy, The Beauty File, Cafe Fashionista, La Rue Neuve, Style Symmetry, Chic 'n Cheap Living, Glammed if you do ..., Pudding and the Post-Fab Princess, and Chic on the Cheap

And, while we're at it, a heartfelt thanks to Chic on the Cheap for tagging me for the "I ♥ Your Blog" award. The rules are simple: post the award and pass it to 15 people. But, I encourage all readers to post it. If you ♥ my blog, then I certainly ♥ your blog, too!
