{ bon voyage } Washington D.C.

In just a couple of weeks, we're heading to the nation's capital. I've never been to Washington D.C. and I'm looking forward to spending a long weekend immersed in United States' history and admiring centuries-old architecture. We've booked our Capitol and White House tours, added stops to an extensive Google map and received great ideas in this post. What's your "must see" in D.C.?

  1. So glad you get to experience DC! You should DEF get a burger while you're here. Pizza is to NYC as burgers are to DC. Good Stuff Eatery on Cap Hill will change your life. It's owned by one of the Top Chef contestants. The National Gallery of art is pretty fantastic. The Chester Dale Collection def worth seeing!

  2. This sounds like such a great trip! Have fun!
I love the first two pictures, the one with the Beatle and the one with the red trees. I think that pretty colours all around is the best part about fall! :)

  4. I've been to D.C. like half a dozen times and my mom more like fifty. Her favorite place is the Smithsonian Castle. It's a nice little preview of all the Smithsonian Museums there. My personal faves are the FDR memorial and the Holocaust Museum.

  8. We used to live in DC!Hit up the Dupont Circle Farmer's Market on Sunday if you can. Also the National Gallery and I second Good Stuff Eatery for a good burger. Georgetown is great and M-street for some shopping. Try to get to Old Town Alexandria if you can too!

The FDR monument is my favorite. Arlington is a great experience, too.

  10. Wow, you booked the White House Tour? We were told you need to contact your state senator to get permission and have a group of 10 people....

Definitely go to Georgetown, the shopping is fantastic, and don't wait in line for the Cupcakes... I swear, they taste just like regular cupcakes, nothing to make you go weak at the knees or say "I'm so glad I stood in line for an hour for these..."

    Have FUN!!

  11. After much time away, I'm catching up on blogs and happy to see you're headed to my city! Looks like you have plenty of ideas already, but... I'd definitely recommend the Newseum followed by lunch at The Source next door (try the "tiny dumpligs"), shopping on 14th St/U St for interesting boutiques (shopping in georgetown is crowded/ pretty generic), cocktails + watch the sunset from POV at the W... I'm actually working on a city guide, so let me know if you want any more specific suggestions!
