Last weekend, I spent a staggering $70 on baking ingredients. And if you peeked into my grocery bags, you'd quickly realize that I dropped nearly $100 on candy: milk chocolate, white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, granulated sugar, brown sugar and powdered sugar. All in the name of Christmas. I've since been slaving over a hot cookie sheet, cranking out dozens of holiday cookies. Just two more treats remain before I can hang up the apron for another year.

Sounds like my type of grocery shopping! xo
ReplyDeleteOh so glad your treats turned out well!! I also just scraped together enough to make some chrissy cooking. I did choc-cheesy truffles, rocky road with wafer biscuits instead of nuts,a nd gingerbread men but they aren't overly gingery :(
ReplyDeleteYour cookies are looking good and tasty!
ReplyDeleteAnd you've gotten so much more done than me.
I can't imagine the cost of the groceries, as I can never buy everything I need all at once; but rather in 10 separate trips to the store.
It sure adds up quickly doesnt it? Your cookies look great....and now I need to get a move on with some baking!!!

Wow!! That's a lot of holiday baking woman! How fun!! :) I haven't made anything special for the holidays yet. I'm thinking I'll try out some simple recipes for cookies this year for gifts to some party hosts.
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look so yummy! I have done a lot of baking for my office as well. Here is my family favorite peanut butter cookie recipe:
ReplyDeleteRecipe:
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
Sift flour with baking powder and salt and set aside. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy; add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in peanut butter. Slowly mix in dry ingredients, about 1/3 at a time, until just blended. Chill dough two hours. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Shape dough into 1" balls, arrange 3" apart on greased baking sheets, and flatten by pressing lightly with a sugared fork in a crisscross fashion. Bake 10-12 minutes until golden. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Enjoy!

That all looks so delicious! I haven't been baking this year but I always look forward to my aunt's homemade mini-pecan pies. It is sad that they are such an involved process and then each one gets gobbled up in 2 bites, but they are SO good!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit!
Yes baking can be expensive - but homemade goodies are SO worth it!

I'm a sucker for the Thimble Cookie Jessica...I can't help it. I've made another batch (this one not hitting the floor) and have cleared out 12 out of 24 cookies in 2 days. And that's practicing restraint. Oy
